About the Artist

Artistic Journey

Abdul Jabbar's journey into Islamic art began at the age of twelve when he started learning calligraphy from his father, who was also a respected calligrapher. Following a traditional apprenticeship model, he spent years mastering different scripts and styles before developing his own distinctive approach. His formal education at the National College of Arts in Lahore further refined his techniques and exposed him to a broader range of artistic influences.

Throughout his career, Abdul has worked tirelessly to preserve traditional calligraphic styles while also pushing the boundaries of the art form. His earlier works were more conventional, focusing on religious texts and traditional geometric patterns. Over time, he began incorporating more contemporary elements and exploring the artistic potential of calligraphy beyond its textual meaning, creating abstract compositions that maintain spiritual significance while embracing modern aesthetics.

As an educator and mentor, Abdul has trained dozens of younger artists, ensuring that the rich tradition of Islamic calligraphy and geometric art continues to thrive in Pakistan. His work has been exhibited across Pakistan, the Middle East, and occasionally in Western galleries specializing in Islamic art.
